3rd Feb 2019
Six months ago, I sat down with Rhian and Emily and showed them an application I had downloaded for Emily for TRING PARK SCHOOL, a full time, boarding performing arts school - one of the best in the country. I told them both I thought this was the right step for Emily, that she is capable of such spectacular things. Once Rhian had calmed down, we submitted the application and myself, Adam and Emily worked extremely hard in preparation for her audition. I am absolutely thrilled to say we have just found out that Emily has been offered a place at TRING PARK SCHOOL as a full time boarder! She has also been invited to the scholarship audition in March. So proud of you my darling girl. Blessed to have been part of your amazing journey so far. Now GO FLY!!! I’ll be supporting you every step of the way xxxx @emily_derham_dance @gilbertrhian #proud #jlda #elite #training #standards #technique

27th Jan 2019 - Southern Dance Awards
A phenomenal day at the Southern Dance Class Awards today. A different competition to usual. The students learnt a routine in each genre (ballet, tap and jazz) and perform to a panel of judges. Finalists are then announced and more of the routine is then taught. Placing are then given from 5th to 1st place. The standard was insanely high today, with the content and pace of the classes extremely challenging. Our juniors - Amelia, Lexi and Samantha - started the day, with Lexi making it through to the finals in Ballet. The next age group saw Scarlett, Holly and Carese compete. Scarlett made the finals in Ballet and Tap - a huge achievement for one of the youngest competitors! Carese blew everyone away by placing in ALL THREE GENRES!!! What a SUPERSTAR! Seniors finished the day, with Emily, Channon and Izzy. All three girls made the ballet finals and danced very well indeed. Emily placed THIRD in both Jazz and Tap. A fantastic achievement for - once again - one of the youngest competitors. Izzy also made the finals in Jazz too! Well done elites, what an experience! Learn from this & use it to grow. So proud of each and every one of you! Xxx #jlda #elite #competition

19th Jan 2019 - ‘Inspirational Young Hero’ Emily Derham
our very own ‘inspirational young hero’ Emily Derham, was invited to attend ‘Calendar Girls’ at the Mayflower theatre in Southampton as a VIP! Not only did she watch the show but was invited on stage after to meet the celebrity cast including Denise Welch & Fern Britton. Thank you (again!) to Paul Scates for your continued support in Emily. She loves being a ‘Young hero’ -for her dedication to dance- and we cannot thank you enough for these continued, spectacular opportunities!
Correct classical training is something I am passionate about. So often now, children are being pushed by unqualified, inexperienced teachers. Students go ‘en pointe’ nowadays without the sufficient pre pointe training or guidance. I wish these teachers understood the physical damage they’re doing to these children’s bodies!!!!

'OUTSTANDING, SUPERB, WONDERFUL, EXCELLENT'
Reviewers very rarely - if ever - review dance school shows! I am blown away that Dorset Theatre Reviews - were in last night and the review is beyond belief. *** For the first time ever I really do not know how to review this superb show. Every single routine was outstanding and I could go through them all and I would be using the same words each time, OUTSTANDING, SUPERB, WONDERFUL, EXCELLENT etc. Obviously I cannot do this but take it from me that not one of the routines was just ordinary. Having said all this I shall just pick out a few that were my personal favourites, however please do not feel if I do not mention your routine that I did not love it because I did. So here goes. Act One Battle of the Mice and Soldiers was charming., Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, excellent. I loved ‘All that Jazz’. In the Mood by Pre-Primary Tap was enchanting. Who could ever forget ‘White Christmas’ by Pre-School Ballet it was unbelievable. Waltz of the Snowflakes, lovely. Act Two Born to Handjive was lovely and colourful. ‘Goldfinger’ what a super performance. I loved the Abba Medley and Super Mario Theme. The 42nd Street Tap was outstanding. The Elves were lovely. What more can I say - an outstanding show. The costumes and setting were beyond belief. How the backstage crew managed to get everyone out of one costume and into another so efficiently I have no idea. Well done. The choreography was outstanding (told you I would say that over and over) as was the band. I just feel with so much hard work and effort it is a shame it is for ‘One Night Only’. It would be lovely to see it all again and I am sure there are many people who were not able to see this performance for one reason or another who would have loved to be able to go on another evening. I expect you can have guessed that I had an ‘OUTSTANDING’ evening. Well done to everyone involved. Lyn Richel
